Sefton Green Star League Champions
Merefield School have retained their title of Sefton’s Green Star League champions for the fourth year running. Each term we have been updating Sefton with our efforts towards our Eco School status. This includes environmental issues such as recycling, reducing our carbon footprint and healthy living. Some of our pupils attended the ceremony at the Ramada Plaza to collect the award.
See Sefton's website for the tough competition we have faced...
Merefield School is an Eco School. We have already achieved our Silver Eco Schools award and are hoping to apply for our Green Flag award very soon.
We promote the recycling of lots of different materials both in school and with families, these include:
We have keen horticulture group within school, developing our sensory garden, school grounds and an allotment for growing fruit and vegetables throughout the year.
As part of our commitment to our local community classes throughout the school participate in regular beach tidy's and litter picking in the local nature reserve.
Merefield School are always looking for ways to look after our environment and we are proud to be supporting the Big Battery Hunt. Every pupil will be bringing home a small recycling box to collect old batteries, once full this can be returned to school and we will arrange for them to be recycled.
In addition, every class will be learning about how they can help look after their environment through fun and exciting activities over the next term including Plastic Fantastic competition in partnership with Garnier, focusing on collecting everyday plastics found in our bathrooms. We are also working in partnership with ASDA and The Plastic Investigators Club with exciting challenges for the pupils to complete. We appreciate families continued support with reducing and recycling to improve our local environment. .
