Another year another trophy!! As you can see from our banner headline we have just found out we are Sefton Secondary Schools' Eco Champions AGAIN!! Well done to everyone for the ongoing commitment to recycling throughout the school!

Looking forward to next weeks Wally Cain Dance Festival - we will be taking part on the Friday evening - always a highlight of the year!

This terms whole school theme of celebrating Roald Dahl is really inspiring some very creative learning throughout the school! A group of Upper School pupils have already visited an exhibition at Tatton Park and next month a group from Lower School will be visiting the Southport Atkinson Library for some Roald Dahl storytelling! A whole school display in the hall is starting to come to life as learning takes place.

This Friday we are celebrating Outdoor Learning and Den Day! Outdoor learning is nothing new here at Merefield - our Forest and Beach School philosophy is well embedded throughout the school, but we always love an opportunity to really celebrate outdoor learning and so when we saw this National Day we were delighted to take part. Fundraising associated with the day will be going towards Save The Children.

We have been working on the Rights Respecting School Award for the past 18 months and I am delighted to say that next week - Thursday June 23rd - we are being assessed for the Level 1 Award. An assessor will be spending the day in school looking at everything we have done and continue to do to ensure that the rights of each and every child are at the heart of everything we do here at Merefield.

As delighted as we all are by the arrival of summer and the lovely weather we have been experiencing these past few weeks, it did cause problems for classes who could not regulate the temperature within their classroom. This has been an issue for the school for some time and during the half term we facilitated the installation of air-conditioning within Natterjacks, Owls and Hedgehogs and also Sharons' office! Needless to say this has been a great success for everyone within these classes with other staff just calling in to have a cool down as necessary! It is a long term project to install air-conditioning within all classrooms as/when funds allow. For now I will just turn my fan back on to keep me cool!

Hope to see you all before the end of term

Sue
