As we approach the last two weeks of another incredible term here at Merefield, I would just like to celebrate and share some amazing achievements that have taken place recently.

On June 23rd we were visited by an assessor for the UNICEF Rights Respecting School's Award and I am delighted to say that we achieved Level 1 of this wonderful award! Many thanks to everyone who contributed during the assessment process. Rights are at the heart of everything we do here at Merefield - the right for our children and young people to receive the best education possible being the driving force for everyone connected with the Merefield community. We are very proud that the work we have put into changing our curriculum, constantly updating our resources and facilities, establishing outstanding relationships with parents, families and other professionals has been recognised with this award.

Fundraising during this past year has been focussed on the redevelopment of the large playground space and I am delighted that we have been able to secure the required funds in order for the redevelopment to begin work on August 8th! Heartfelt thanks go to so many people from throughout the school,  Sainsburys' Southport, Aiming High and Sefton LA all of whom have made this dream a reality! We all cannot wait to see the finished playground which should - weather permitting - be available for use when we return in September!

Last Saturday was a very busy day within the Merefield calendar! Members of staff took part in the Cancer Research Pretty Muddy Race for Life, other members of staff visited the Autism Show in Manchester whilst others attended our wonderful Oscar Night Celebration! The theme for the evening was Superheroes - completely describing every single Merefield pupil and member of staff! Everyone had a wonderful time including a surprise visit by Captain America, Wonder Girl and Michaelangelo Ninja Turtle!

A group of lower school pupils have gone into Southport on the train this morning to take part in a special presentation of Roald Dahls' The Twits at the Atkinson Theatre - a WOW event enhancing the current whole school learning theme of Roald Dahl stories.

Tomorrow will  - weather permitting - be our annual lower school sports afternoon, always a lovely event. Also tomorrow a group of Upper School pupils will be attending the Sefton Eco Awards Ceremony at the Ramada Hotel to receive the Green Star League Champions award - again!! I am going to have to buy a bigger trophy cabinet!

All of these activities and events are simply a very small snapshot of life within Merefield. Our pupils are amazing and as a staff we delight in all of their achievements. Life within Merefield is busy, engaging, purposeful and most of all fun. Everyone has had a wonderful year with new learning experiences and great memories created. We are all looking forward to our summer holidays to catch our breath, reflect on the past 12 months and seek to plan for the next year to continue our outstanding work and pupil achievements.
